Risk assessments are a great way of determining how significant and likely a hazard in a workplace can be to cause an injury/illness, fatality, or property damage. Risk Assessments are required to be carried out according to OHS Regulation to protect employees’ safety. They do have financial values as well.

Risk AssessmentLet’s say XYZ Trucking has a long list of hazards. This is common when workplace tasks are closely analyzed for risks. Once identified, it may be difficult to prioritize hazards at first glance.

If a risk assessment is done correctly, it will help rank each hazard based on low, medium or  high risk. This can help ensure hazards are appropriately allocated with high risk hazards first. Doing so will help mitigate hazards to safer levels, reducing the likelihood of injury or property damage.

SafetyDriven conducts a risk assessment prior to every event, due to the different hazards staff members are exposed to. This ensures staff is made aware of any hazards identified, and explains any control measures. This way staff can continue to enjoy the event while staying safe.

The need for carrying out risk assessments can varies depending on the type of work. Certain employers transporting unique goods would have to conduct risk assessments on a more frequent basis due to the variation in hazards involved.
