Training focused on joint committee participation offers value to every committee member. However, additional health and safety training will not only benefit committee members. It will allow them to be a greater asset to the company’s health and safety management system.
Currently under the Workers’ Compensation Act, it is recommended that committee members take part in annual training of at least eight hours. However, proposed regulatory changes will likely require each committee member to take part in training with specific topics.
You can find more information on joint committee member training, including the specific topics to be covered, by visiting the WorkSafeBC website or clicking this link: Proposed new Section 3.27.
There are several training options available that focus directly on joint committee meetings. Some examples offered by SafetyDriven – TSCBC include CCOHS online courses, Facilitated BiteSized Workshops and FAQ’s. Both these options are free to employers that are levy paying members.
