Long Haul Drivers: what’s your plan if there is an emergency in your personal life?

An article was brought to my attention earlier this week. The topic, long haul drivers responding to emergencies, seemed interesting because there is not very much material out there.

Reading further into the blog, I realized the information related more towards personal emergencies rather than emergencies that impact everyone, such as earthquakes, flooding, and forest fires. I found this very interesting because this topic was not covered elsewhere, at least not that I’ve seen.

It did highlight the importance of long haul drivers having a plan in place in the event of an emergency in their personal life. Anything could happen so it’s important to be prepared.ambulance-148747_640

One of the suggestions that I found to be very thought-provoking was if there was an emergency, would you, as a driver, have the mental and physical capability to get back home.

Every driver in that situation would have to consider other possibilities. Possibly taking a flight home, renting a car or even asking someone to meet you where you are.

The original article provides six tips drivers can use to be better prepared for emergencies. I encourage everyone to read it by clicking this link or visiting A Slice of Orange found on Schneider’s webpage.

We also offer an Emergency Response Planning course found here: http://www.safetydriven.ca/product/emergency-response-planning/
