Are you looking at the health and safety program in your workplace and wondering what happened? You may be wondering if there is anyone in that workplace that has taken responsibility for workplace health and safety.
The truth is, many employers in the industry overlook the importance of assigning responsibility for managing workplace health and safety. It’s a common problem and sometimes it’s not until a serious injury occurs that employers become aware of the risks and are willing to take action.
There is a better option; assign someone in upper level management the responsibility of managing workplace health and safety. This person will then coordinate with other staff members and improve employee health and safety.
This is not easy because not everyone is an expert in health and safety. That’s why SafetyDriven – TSCBC has helped several employers in educating staff in practices related to workplace health and safety. We do this by offering employers in the industry mentorship, courses, workshops and tools.
We offer services to better educate and prepare employers in managing employee health and safety. We can do this by offering members in the industry our services at no charge. Becoming a member does not a cost a thing if you are in the General Trucking (732019) and Moving and Storage (732030) classification units.
If, for example, a health and safety representative is unfamiliar with their role in a Joint Health and Safety Committee, they are able to take an online course. If you have several employees unfamiliar with JOHSC meetings, a better option is the workshop offered by Garry Crawford.
Regardless of courses, workshops, mentorship or gap analysis, members receive these services at no charge. To find out if you are eligible for membership, or to find more information on our services, contact Annette DeCaire at 604-888-2242 or annette (at) safetydriven.ca.
