Keeping employees safe and healthy during their work activities has a number of benefits. The most obvious is employees showing up to work each and every day. Unfortunately, despite these benefits, somehow certain workplace activities seem to overshadow employee health and safety.

mentorship-program-logoNot having someone with the sole responsibly of managing health and safety is a common challenge in many workplaces. It’s often instead a juggling act for an employee trying to balance multiple responsibilities.

One of the nice things about SafetyDriven – TSCBC is that we are a non-profit organization with a mandate to improve workplace health and safety in the trucking industry in British Columbia. Health and safety is our sole responsibility. Employers who sign up for the Mentorship Program are assigned a Health and Safety Advisor, such as myself, no juggling required.

Employers who have a goal of improving their health and safety will benefit the most by working with an advisor. Common health and safety goals we have helped employers with include:

  • Compliance with applicable legislation
  • Reducing the number of incidents, or
  • Working towards Certificate of Recognition

We offer the Mentorship Program for free to employers who fall under the General Trucking (732019) and Moving and Storage (732030) classification units. It is still available for other employers but they must be ‘naturally aligned’ and willing to pay a small fee for membership.

With membership into the Mentorship Program, an employer will receive one-on-one mentorship service, access to the Learning Academy, and a wide range of resources including videos and templates, and other benefits.

Are you wondering if the Mentorship Program is for you? Ask yourself the following questions and find out:

  • Do you know what piece of legislation applies to your workplace health and safety?
  • Do you know the topics that must be covered in a new employee orientation?
  • Are health and safety meetings being held on a regular basis?
  • Are you taking all the appropriate steps in preventing workplace injuries?
  • Are employees aware of hazards they are exposed to?

If you are uncertain about any of these questions, you are an ideal employer for the Mentorship Program. Following an assessment of your current health and safety program, the Health and Safety Advisor will develop an action plan and help you work towards achieving your goal.

Contact us for more information and see how you can get started on improving workplace health and safety.
