Short Talks That Have Huge Value

Managers carry out several activities to ensure staff work safely. This includes purchasing safer equipment, training staff, ensuring supervision, and many other tasks. The employer’s goal is to ensure each staff member goes home in the same condition they where when they came into work.

Financial costs for workplace health and safety can steadily rise due to the costs of some safety measures. For example; purchasing rail tarping systems to replace the traditional method of tarping where drivers would climb up and tarp the load.

Despite the safety benefit of eliminating the hazard of a driver falling off the load while tarping, investing in rail tarping systems can be costly, and might send a trucking company looking for more revenue. For that reason, it is nice when employers have a low cost option to keep employees safe.

Talks on health and safety topics can provide that low cost option. Safety talks not only promote health and safety in the workplace, they are also one of the things most regulators look for in a health and safety program.

Don’t feel up to speaking to staff about health and safety topics? Hopefully you do, but everybody feels a little worn out by the end of the week. No problem!

The SafetyDriven website has a whole collection of resources, including videos. Use our video Benefits of Stretching to make drivers aware of workplace wellness. Drivers making long haul deliveries? Show them a video on Hours of Service.

Staff need constant reminders about health and safety topics to be safe. Simplify the task by checking our resources page.
