Long weekends are great because they provide employees a break from their busy work schedule. There are, however, many employers throughout the country who continue their operations despite the statutory holiday.

Long weekends also offer a number of events and parties that are exciting. Those who are working on holidays have to enjoy these events or parties responsibly. Failure to do so could have dire consequences.

For example, staying too late at a party makes most of us tired the next morning. Fatigue can have a negative impact on drivers.

Employees have a responsibility to be ready for their shift the next day, and take that into account when attending an event or party the night before. But; how can employers ensure drivers are prepared for their shift on a long weekend?

yawnFatigue has a negative impact on a driver’s performance. In order to tackle this issue, employers need to educate drivers on the risks of fatigue. The Fatigue Management page on our website provides a link for great information on how to manage fatigue.

Drivers also need to be educated on the risks of driving while other road users are fatigued. Educating drivers on the signs of fatigue helps to ensure the driver takes appropriate action if and when they notice another road user is fatigued.

If a driver understands the risks, there is a greater likelihood the driver will avoid exposing themselves to them.
